Merve Cowling (she / her)

Artistic direction

Merve currently studies for a masters in Cultural & Media Management in Berlin. She has an academic background in Cultural Studies and is especially interested in contemporary discourses on new media art, painting, photography, and performance.

With SCHALLFRONT, Merve aims to promote young emerging artists and add life to the music scene in her hometown, Hannover.

Jona Wolf (they / them)

Exhibition design, graphic design

Jona Wolf is a Berlin-based visual artist and researcher. They graduated from the University of Applied Arts Vienna in 2015. They have a degree in architecture and have lectured at several universities, focusing on digital fabrication, experimental design methods and 3D modelling.


They are collaborating with various artists from other disciplines to expand the potential of spatial installations and explore new fabrication techniques. They have shown work at NOW Gallery London, Design Week Milan, ACF Bratislava, and SoundsAbout Berlin, among others.

John-Robin Bold (he / him)

Music Curator

John-Robin Bold is a Berlin-based concert guitarist, composer and performer of experimental electronic music. As part of the SCHALLFRONT project, he is curator for experimental electronic music and is also responsible for press and public relations.

After his early studies of concert guitar with Prof. Frank Bungarten at the Hanover University of Music and Drama, he completed his studies in computer music at the University of Art in Graz, which also took him to the University of Huddersfield for a semester. Since 2019, the artist has been co-founder and organiser of the interdisciplinary concert series at the established Forum Stadtpark Graz, Austria.

Bold is currently supported by the NEUSTART KULTUR grant from the Musikfonds.

In addition to releases on Mille Plateaux, Quanta Records and Mappa editions, Bold has a busy European concert schedule as a composer and performer of experimental electronic music, which has taken him to the ZKM Karlsruhe [DE], Palazzo Ricci [ITA], Otto Wagner Kirche [AUT], Fuse Art Space [UK], Hear Me! Festival [CZE] and the UMUM Festival [SVK], among others. As a concert guitarist, he has collaborated with the renowned vocal ensemble Cantando Admont, the multimedia ensemble electronic ID, Mats Scheidegger and Tobias Klich.

Andy Cowling (he / him)

Music Curator, Sound Technician

Andy Cowling is a Hanover-based concert guitarist, composer and performer of experimental electronic music. He was recently supported as a composer by the NEUSTART KULTUR scholarship of the Musikfonds. Alongside John-Robin Bold, with whom he has been collaborating musically since 2016, he is responsible for curating the programme within SCHALLFRONT.

After studying concert guitar with Prof. Paul Reilly at Ball State University in Indiana, USA, Cowling completed his master's degree in concert guitar with Prof. Frank Bungarten at the Hanover University of Music and Drama. During his studies in the USA, he already held teaching positions at Taylor [USA] and Ball State University in the field of guitar. He currently lectures at the New York Academy of Music at the CJD Braunschweig.

As an electronic music artist, he released his solo debut on the Mille Plateaux label, as well as a forthcoming collaboration with John-Robin Bold on Glenn Dancer Records.
